^^^ What I said several pages back.
Celtics save about $800,000 by not guaranteeing these two salaries.
Teams across the league are waiving players before the deadline to guarantee contracts.
Someone started a rumor that waiving Joseph and Varnado was a precursor to a big trade and speculation became rampant the Celtics were dealing for Cousins.
From what I can tell... much of it can be traced back to Bleacher Report... that known hotbed of verifiable facts.
Every trade scenario I have seen has the Celtics given up more players than they are receiving back which would indicate a minimum of 3 open roster spots were such a deal completed. Not a deal breaker by any means as they could sign 3 guys to vet minimum contracts... Renew the Martin, Wallace, et al speculation here.
I do think a trade is forthcoming but have no idea what it will be. My own speculation is it will take place on or after January 15th at the earliest and quite possibily not unitl January 18 when Barbosa can be dealt. I also think the Celtics will look to sign a FA but / and / or may wait to see who is bought out.

It's going to be very busy over next few days/ weeks for the Celtics. I expect a lot to happen over the next few weeks.
I can see one or two moves happening, if the deals are right. I expect DA/ Ownership to pull the trigger.
1. D. Cousins- Trade to Boston for J. Green, J. Sully, J. Terry, C. Lee.
2. Sign Kenyon Martin.
3. Explore option of trading for Rudy Gay.
I would try and hang onto A. Bradley.

By freeing up space, it also allows more options. Expect a third team to get involved also. I won't be shocked if we see major changes over next few weeks (Jan 15th).
After K. Perkins deal, I expect DA/ Ownership not to wait post All-Star break. I think some lessons were learned with team chemistry.
If something is done, I expect it before the trade deadline and before the break.
Also expect a lot of denying outta both/ all camps. Im sure conversations are happening, what comes of that......

It's actually a pro-ration of $800,000 that is saved. Actual dollar amout between the two is closer to $450,000 for the remainder of this season. Looking at Vet Minimum contract with that type of money. (Que Martin, Wallace, et al speculation here)
Roster flexibility was gained, with minor cap flexibility also gained. Enough to make a difference in a trade the proportions being discussed here? Maybe, every little bit could help.

If we take a collective deep breath I think we might come to realize Cousins to the Celtics is going to be really difficult to pull off.
Start with, what do the Celtics have to offer? The key consideration here is that Cousins is a legit elite BIG man talent, the type of player that is difficult to come by. Everyone thinks Bradley has to be included to bring Cousins to Boston. The only problem with this is the Kings are pretty set at shooting guard.
There were rumors they were looking to trade Evans before Cousins began stealing headlines for his on and off the court behavior. So, say they want to trade Cousins and Evans for Bradley and...? What other trade chips do the Celtics have to offer for a young big man talent like Cousins? Rondo? Now the C's need a point guard.
So obviously a third team needs to be involved.
But the problem remains that the C's don't have a matching talent or lottery picks to throw into a trade to obtain Cousins. Not unless in a moment of complete stupidity the Kings agree to accept a package of players including some combnation of Green, Lee, Terry, Bass, Sullinger, Barbsa, Melo and mid to late first round picks. A quantity for quality trade? Great for the Celtics but it would get people fired in Sac.
Even with a third team involved, the Celtics have limited resources to obtain a talent like Cousins. Rondo and / or Bradley. Pierce and KG are at the end of their careers but their contracts are not expiring just yet. Who else is there that could command a talent like Cousins in return?
Okay, now that I have established why a Cousins trade to Boston is unlikely to happen... it should be good to go. Cousins should be in Green on the 15th.![]()

NESN Reporting that there will be no deal
http://nesn.com/2013/01/report-demar...not-available/
Celts, Sox, Pats, Bruins
1. D. Cousins needs a new start.
2. D. Cousins doesn't want to be Sac King anymore.
3. Sac Kings are unsure of what future they will have with D. Cousins around.
4. Kings could fill a real talent void by adding players like J. Green, Sully, J. Terry, Lee
5. D. Cousins is nice but....buyer beware. The kid has real issues and needs stablity. He can't get that on a very young team with no real leadership (player/ coach).
I agree a trade to locate the talent of Cousins would be tough, but it has to be explored.
The sticking point in the deal is A. Bradley im sure, DA may think he would have to give up to much, that is very possible.
All teams will deny talks.....nothing new....no need to upset players/ locker rooms. A deal for D. Cousins may or may not happen, but I would be shocked if Boston isn't very active before Feb 2013......![]()

Nesn isn't reporting anything, they're regurgitating Amicks tweet about Cousins, which is a regurgitation of kings ownership saying that they aren't trading CousinsOriginally Posted by celticsman2009:25002157
