I mean no Torres, no Thole or Nickeas, Duda and Ike should be better offensively (over a whole season hopefully), they might bring back Hairston.

The more i think about it, maybe it is possible they score more runs this year.

why is this even a thread? this lineup is awful. we have a minor league outfield, a pretty bad catcher (based on last year's woeful average from buck), and a pretty shaky infield. our offense is anemic
This is just the beginning. Let's keep it up. History is bound to repeat itself. Let's hope that this time it's for the best.

I wish my shaky infield had an all-star 3rd baseman, a 30+ HR solid glove 1Bman, solid everyday SS, and a good hitter at 2B with poor defense.

Our INF is actually decent offensively, Buck is an upgrade over Nickeas, Thole, and Shoppach from a power and runs production standpoint and we don't have Bay or Torres anymore.

Duda, Ike, and Murphy should hit better i would think next year even if Wright regresses some offensively and if they bring back Hairston there lineup should be similar to last year.

Not good but not terrible either.

    It's still a 70 win team regardless.

    A numbers crunchers prospective:

    Tejada-R 600 1 45 .285 6 Probably most accurate prediction here
    Wright-R 650 30 105 .315 22 Very optimistic ABs bump everything else up. 600-25-95-.290-17
    Davis-L 600 35 100 .280 2 Power numbers doable, but BA closer to .265
Buck-R 400 15 60 .245 1 No way he gets 400 ABs next year on wrong side of platoon. 250-8-35-.220
    Duda-L 525 23 80 .265 4 BA too high (.245) but power doable
Cowgill-R 350 6 25 .270 15 Cut your HRs and SBs in half and drop BA to .250
    Murphy-L 525 12 65 .285 8 Not bad. Needs 600 ABs for 12 HRs, but could crack .300.
    Sub-Total: 4150 132 540 .280 65

Depends on the starting pitching, and the bullpen. In which case I say, no it is not enough to overcome the bullpen.

If the Mets resign Rauch and Hairston, I will feel marginally better about the team's ability to compete.
"The 90 wins is about challenge. It's about changing the conversation. It's about framing questions for ourselves as to how we get there. So I stand by the notion that we need to get better, and in doing so we need to set concrete goals for ourselves so that we have sort of specific conversations among ourselves about how we're going to get there." -- Mr. Alderson

I agree with the above sentiments. The chances are someone will have a poor year, it could DW or Ike, or DM anyone, it happens, that's why these kind of projections are useless.

    They assume health.

    They assume no regressions.

    They assume no poor seasons.

    They're all best case scenarios.

No-one ever factors in the negative possibilities.

This team won 74 games with lights out and unrepeatable 2 out hitting for half a season, it is now worse thas it was then with the loss of a CY winner, losing Bay is a positive, but what difference is for ex. Cowgills offense over Bay's going to make?

Next to nil. TDA et al should be better than T(hole) et al, but again is that off-setting 200 world class innings pitched, is it ****. RA also saved the BP and could go deep is Hefner et al going to do that?

    Nope.

The potential for an absolutely disgraceful season is right there, the potential floor is very low, just imagine if this team starts out slow and loses condfidence?

    ugh...

I don't want to hear anyone complaining that this team stinks next season, if you're one of those people who are happy with them doing nothing again.

I on the other hand will be complaining until they start trying to win.

    You complain?

    Never...

As for this team being garbage next year, i think everyone realizes that.

65-70 wins is still where i would put them.

The bullpen should be better and the offense although was very good in the first half last year should be more consistent as a whole this year.

The rotation shouldn't be that bad either..

No Bay, No Torres, No Thole are all very good things especially if they get more consistency out of Ike, Duda (at the plate) and if they bring back Hairston.

I think Baxter will surprise some people. His high OBP. is certainly a positive.

As for Kirk, we'll see how he adjusts and i think Cowgill and Brown could also surprise.

    Current Lineup: Is it Enough?

A lot of IFs but if this is done there would be enough runs scored to rate in the middle of the pack. Just enough power and little speed. Adding back Hairston takes away a big risk if Buck stays below the Mendoza Line. I also want our CF platoon [Nieuwenhuis/Cowgill/Valdespin] to provide a leadoff hitter with some speed so we stop this one base at a time sluggish offense. Murphy and Tejada would alternate between #2 and #7 or 8th spot depending on the opposing pitcher/our leadoff hitter. I still would prefer a proven outfielder in case Dude and Kirk and the other kids are not all we hope for.

Enough for what? You didn't finish your question.
"Mr. Martin Tanner, Baritone, of Dayton, Ohio made his Town Hall debut last night. He came well prepared, but unfortunately his presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards. His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to make it consistently interesting. Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order."
