    Amnesty Buyout Candidates

According to the article on TSN:

    - Each team will be allowed two amnesty buyouts that can be used to terminate contracts after this season and next season. The buyouts will count against the players' overall share in revenues, but not the team's salary cap.
Assuming that this remains valid, what players from your team would you think could be a candidate for this? As A Leaf Fan, I think that Komisarek could potentially be amnestied, since his contract runs a few more years. I would say Phaneuf too, but he's the captain so I doubt it.

I gotta think that Rick Dipietro is up there (since he has a really long deal, but has been injury prone).

The longer the contract, the less likely a team is going to buy out the player. They still have to pay them the buyout amount, it just doesn't count against the cap (my understanding). Buying out DiPietro would cost a whole lot of cash.

It's an interesting proposition. Who really knows. Ballard would be a guy that I would look at for Vancouver, Ville Leino in Buffalo.

For the Blackhawks the candidates would be: Olesz, Montador, and maybe Frolik.

With his future of playing in the NHL in doubt, I would think Savard is the top candidate for the Bruins.

I don't think we'll see as many as some are suggesting and not long-term contracts either.

I'd say yes to this as well, no point buying Thomas out since he's up at the end of the year.

Not sure if they can buyout Savy because of his condition. They can just as easily put him on the LTIR every year and he doesn't count against the cap

When the lockout is officially ended, does this buyout go into effect this season

example: Lockout ends, Bruins decide to buyout Thomas...Clear X amt. of money

or does it go into effect after the season, which no point to buy TT out b/c he's a F.A anyway

Komisarek for the Leafs, just don't see anyone else for them, Grabo would have like a .5% chance

Panthers, wont buy anyone out, only guy maybe would be Jovo
