    11 years too late

    From PFT:

NFL officials are talking about revamping the tuck rule.

Dean Blandino, the league’s director of officiating, said in a video distributed to the media that the NFL’s Competition Committee plans to review the tuck rule, which was made famous on January 19, 2002, when an apparent Tom Brady fumble was overturned to an incomplete pass, paving the way for the Patriots to beat the Raiders on the way to New England’s first Super Bowl title.

“This is going to be part of a bigger discussion in the offseason of QB pass/fumbles and the tuck rule with the Competition Committee,” Blandino said. “This will be discussed in the offseason.”

Blandino referenced a play on Sunday when Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was first ruled to have fumbled when he was hit from behind and lost the ball — a ruling that was overturned on replay when the referee called it an incomplete pass. Blandino said the referee’s ruling was based on a belief that Luck was purposely bringing his hand forward in an attempt to throw a pass, and did not have his hand pushed forward when he was hit from behind.

“It was ruled on the field a fumble and the key here is the tuck rule,” Blandino said. “The rule is, if the quarterback brings his arm up to throw in an obvious passing motion, any intentional forward movement of the hand with control of the football will constitute a forward pass. That’s the rule.”

At least, that’s the rule for now. It might not remain the rule for much longer

I get more irritated by the fact we couldn't stop Jermaine Wiggins or get a yard when we needed it. Those were bigger reasons for us losing that game than one call.

Besides, it was a make-up call for Sugar Bear.

I have always said that was the play that changed the plight of the Oakland Raiders that day. Think of it like this....Had the Raiders won that day, The our team not the Patriots may have went to the Super Bowl. Then maybe Gruden stays put and we possibly go on the run that the Patriots went on in that decade. We did make the Super Bowl but it didn't happen the way it was supposed to. Oh well, **** happens!

We still would have faced Pittsburgh on the road the following week. They were the #1 seed that year. But if nothing else, we would have been used to playing in freezing temps. And I don't think Al Davis would have brought the team back to Oakland following the Pats game, so that would have allowed us time to prepare for the Steelers in the AFC Championship.

At this point I no longer care what they do with the Tuck rule. I already know whose grave I'm pissing on when the time comes.

Well, it's not like it was going to effect the Super Bowl hopes of the Raiders any time soon, so I couldn't care less if it stayed or went.
PLEASE WELCOME THE NEW COACH OF YOUR OAKLAND RAIDERS.....

I agree, it was that 3rd and 2 late in the game that we couldn't convert. As a matter of fact I think we had like a 2nd and 3 just before. I was more disturbed about those two plays than the tuck.
You may not want this, because it all boils down to the ref's view on what happened. There's that grey area of his judgement. That's what worries me the most.
