Lions resign Ashlee Palmer and Don Carey

Lions signed LB Ashlee Palmer to a two-year contract extension.
Palmer will earn a base salary of $1 million in 2013, and then $1.25 million in 2014. The 26-year-old backup outside linebacker appeared in all 16 games this past season and recorded 24 tackles, mainly as a special teams contributor. Both of Detroit's starting outside 'backers, DeAndre Levy and Justin Durant, are scheduled to hit unrestricted free agency this offseason

Lions signed S Don Carey to a one-year, $630,000 contract extension.
Carey was scheduled to become a restricted free agent this offseason. He was signed on the first day of November with the Detroit secondary experiencing a slew of injuries. Carey, 26 in February, then started six games down the stretch and recorded two interceptions with five pass break-ups. He'll be a reserve and special teams player in 2013.

I thought Palmer was much older than 26.

But either way, good deal for him. Great STer (named to PFF all pro team as STer) and can spot start if needed. Can't really complain there. In case Levy or Durant don't come back, one of Palmer, Whitehead, T. Lewis should be able to win the starting OLB spot.

They were both obviously depth moves. They know the system and can step in if (when) someone gets hurt.

I rarely ever go around playin' the role of "thread nazi", but why is this a thread? Palmer is a backup at best and if Carey makes the team, we will be in the same trouble as 2012.
