    Yankees Sign Dan Johnson

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) Ė The Yankees have signed infielder Dan Johnson to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training, according to WFANís Sweeny Murti.

Johnson will earn $900,000 if he makes the team.

The 33-year-old can DH and play both corner infield positions. He had eight hits in 22 at-bats for the Chicago White Sox in 2012, including three home runs in the season finale.

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is expected to miss at least the first half of the season following offseason hip surgery. New York signed infielder Kevin Youkilis to help fill the void.

Johnson, a left-handed batter, hit .267 with 28 home runs and 85 RBIs for the Triple-A Charlotte Knights last season.

Johnsonís career has also included stints in Oakland and Tampa Bay.

In 2011, he hit a game-tying, pinch-hit home run for the Rays in game No. 162. Tampa Bay would make the playoffs with the win over New York, eliminating the Boston Red Sox.

Dan Johnson isn't bad. He takes walks, hits with some power. Maybe he's this year's Russ Branyan.

That's a pretty good comparison. For a cheap deal like that, why not.

I got very excited when I thought it said Don Johnson. But Dan Johnson is ok. If he makes it, he can give Youk and Tex break from time to time.
Don would have been better. Especially with the jacket.

Eh, this is cool with me. But nothing to get excited over since there's the possibility he never sees the ML roster. However, I feel like he's more proven than some of our other DH or part time OF options.

Keep him in AAA until September. He's good for one or two clutch game-winning HR's every year.

No, you're thinking of the right guy. He hit a HR in the last game of the year for Tampa against the Yankees a couple of years ago that helped the Rays get into the playoffs.

Seriously, though, 900K if he's making the club. With the amount of lefties on this team, I don't see that happening.

Hey, he's 10 years younger than our average player.

Hilarious. Too bad this is true. Should change the name to the New York Dinosaurs. Meh.
