Diamondbacks Open to Discussing Justin Upton

Facing a surplus of outfielders following their deal with Cody Ross, the Diamondbacks are once again “very much open” to talking about trading Justin Upton, ESPN.com’s Buster Olney reports (all Twitter links). Their specific demands have changed, Olney notes.

The biggest thing that took the Yankees out of the Upton sweepstakes early on in the Offseason was the fact that the Diamondbacks wanted a long term option at Shortstop. Luckily for the Yankees, they got that answer by trading Trevor Bauer for Didi Gregorious.

Since the Ross signing leaves Arizona with plenty of outfield depth, Justin Upton becomes very available and is a much more realistic fit for the Yankees in Right Field this second time around.

We could have the opportunity to add a 25 year old right handed hitting outfielder. This type of bat is sorely needed in the Yankees lineup. The fact that the Marlins are shopping Stanton could be a blessing in disguise. While other teams are caught up in discussing deals for him, we can sneak in and make the splash we sorely need to make by giving up what it takes for Upton.

He seems like a very realistic fit to me for the Yankees, now that Arizona has their SS of the future. The fact that he is 25 years old, has potential, and hits right handed is just gravy. Cashman needs to think hard about this one. Towers worked in the Yankees organization, he knows guys in the system who he likes. Let him take his pick and if the Yankees agree those prospects are expendable, pull the trigger to improve this ballclub and RF for both the short and long term betterment of the team.

Exactly. So many people are quick to dismiss a trade idea.

Cashman's job involved being in on players who become available.

I'd much rather have Justin Upton than Matt Diaz, that's for sure.

If their asking price has changed given other moves, it makes us a logical option given our OF need.
