.According to a text from Criollos de Caguas general manager Alex Cora, pitcher Javier Vazquez was "impressive" in his Friday night outing against Cangrejeros de Santurce in the Puerto Rico Winter League playoffs.
The Red Sox were scouting Vazquez, who was also watched by scouts from the Rays, Nationals and Royals. The 36-year-old righty went six innings, not allowing a run while surrendering just three hits. He struck out five and didn't walk a batter while touching 93 mph with his fastball.
Vazquez, who is expected to pitch for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic, last pitched in the major leagues during the 2011 season, when he made 32 starts for the Marlins. The pitcher finished the '11 season going 13-11 with a 3.69 ERA, going 5-0 with a 0.71 ERA in the final month of the season.

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal
Both #WhiteSox and #RedSox also scouted Javier Vazquez tonight
@Ken_Rosenthal
J. Vazquez has yet to make final decision about pitching in '13. Source said he pitched at 94 last night. 1st start of winter on 4 days rest
My dad spoke to Javier a couple of days ago and he told me that he wants to pitch in 2013 and that he prefers to pitch for an East coast team since it's closer to Puerto Rico and see his family. However, he also said he wants to pitch for a contender and I'm not sure we qualify as one, who knows. If he is willing to come here on a minor league deal with an opt-out clause if he's not up by a specific date then it's a no-brainer.
I've never claimed to have connections to anybody in the MLB, just certain Puertorican players who my father personally knows since he played and currently coaches in professional leagues over here. (Ex: Alex Cora, Javier Vazquez, Ivan Dejesus, etc). But hey, whatever floats your boat.
Sounds like he wants Washington & i heard Washington wants him
