While Syndergaard may one day be a frontline starter he is two to three years away...rather see him develop here than in Miami.

Remember prospects are far from proven...think of the last two decades: Alex Escobar, Alex Ochoa, Floyd Youmans, Kirk Presley, Geoff Goetz, Deolis Guerra, Kevin Mulvey, Phil Humber, Fernando Martinez, Aaron Heilman and a few of the guys we gave away for nothing [Heath Bell, Matt Lindstrom, Nelson Cruz]. We used a few of these guys in major trades for GCarter, Piazza, Santana but few worked out to be much more than fringe major leaguers if at all. So unless you are damned sure you have a blue chipper at AAA trade whoever you need to in order to put a perennial contender on the field---but it looks like now is not the time to make a four for one trade---this time next year go pull the trigger.

The problem is Syndergaard, Nimmo, and Cecchini are to far away for the Marlins to take that offer. Without TDA and Wheeler in the discussion other teams could easily outbid us.

We are not deep enough at the higher levels to make a trade like this without undoing what Sandy has done with the Beltran and Dickey trades.

even with stanton we still won't compete though. we'd give TDA and Wheeler for sure leaving us holes we can't fill at catcher and a top line pitcher. sure, we'd have an outfielder, but there's still too many holes. i'm not confident the mets will spend a dime and though acquiring him would be great, its not worth it because we are definitely more than a big addition away from success.

Like I said before, just wait for Stanton, Upton, etc. to reach free agency. By that time we should be spending more with the impending Wilets point project looming, and our core established much further.

If they'd entertain offers for Mejia; Familia, Flores, Tapia, Puello, Montero , Lagares, and Fulmer then we have to do that deal. I understand we're a good year or two away, but Stanton's are damn near impossible to get in FA(think 25 mi per year for 7+ years). We'd have him for 4 years, and he would be a perennial 5+ WAR player and is still getting better. I understand we'd move a lot of farm pieces, but 2 of those guys are 1+ years away; while Flores may not have a position w/ us, and Familia and Mejia may not be starters. So of the players I listed, only two of them may contribute this year and on(while either Puello or Lagares project to be marginal players).

We'd still have Wheeler and Harvey to compete for rotation spots this year, while Syndergaard and Mazzoni can fight for a spot in 2014. I'm not saying all of those pan out, but it's reasonable that one of those guys become a decent pitcher by 2015. Go after anyone of the following of Schrezer; King Felix, Matt Harrison, or Justin Materson, and you'd have a very good front 4(assuming Gee bounces back from his injury).

Yeah, no way would they want any of our top prospects for a young superstar. No way.
