For a 'cap genius", Tannebaum really sucked. He was awful.
We have $142 million in salaries this upcoming year with a $121 million salary cap in the NFL.
At plain site, we can cut and save:
Jason Smith - $12 mil
Calvin Pace - $8.56 mil
Bart Scott - $7.15 mil
Eric Smith - $3.00 mil
Tebow - $1.5 mil
We'd be about $13 million under in that case ($108 mil), with none of these guys really doing much of anything for us this past year.
Give Kenrick Ellis the job and cut Pouha ($3.8 mil savings), and you're at about $105 mil with $16 mil to spend. Pouha didn't do anything this year, the run defense sucked anyway.
Not really an ideal situation in the least for the new GM to deal with. Sanchez, Holmes and Harris's contracts are killing us vs what their production has been. About $38 million.
Keller, Greene and Devito have to be sure goners. No way we're paying them.
We need to re-sign Landry as well as acquire top offensive targets (Reggie Bush, Beanie Wells, Steven Jackson; Greg Jennings, Dwayne Bowe, Wes Welker; Jared Cook, Fred Davis; Michael Vick, Joe Flacco are the top skill position players).
The running back group sucks. The Jets need to target Bowe, Jennings or Welker. I wouldn't mind targeting Bowe & Vick, trying to trade Sanchez and drafting a starting running back.
Who knows if this is all possible with seemingly a crappy cap situation. But I thought this would be very useful to all Jet fans.
