Tennessee Titans 38 Jacksonville Jaguars 20

It was a win. Sadly it probably had more of a negative effect than a positive one in my opinion.

    (1) The defense played well in parts but still Jacksonville put up 20 points and had over 5 yards per carry running the ball with Chad Henne completing over 60% of his passes. Those numbers aren't terrible but they sure fail to be big enough to overshadow all the negatives considering that Jacksonville is a 2-14 football team....

    (2) Zach Brown and Darius Reynaud accounted for 28 points on interception and returns. Do the math there and realize that means that the offense done nothing in this game. The offense put up 10 points. They were playing conservative with Chris Johnson running the ball 21 times for 56 yards and Jake Locker only attempting 15 passes. So how does playing this game safe do anything for the team? It does nothing to help these receivers and Jake Locker towards next season.

    (3) It knocks the Titans down even further on the draft board.

In a nutshell this game was terrible. The offense looked terrible. They didn't really show any development towards next season with the exception of Zach Brown. They tumbled down the draft board.

I read that the Titans are going to be picking at #10, and would have picked at #7 with a loss. So that's not a big deal... Unless Manti T'eo is drafted at 7, 8, or 9 .

I was more worried that a win would ensure that Munchak is safe, but this:

convinced me that he would stick around even with a loss to Jacksonville.

At the very least, we absolutely must get some real coordinators in here. Problem is, Bud has never been willing to pay top dollar for coaches, and no prestigious coordinator is going to want to come in and coach under Munchak for a discount.

I think Tennessee is in a terrible position right now. If it were up to me, I'd blow everything up and start over again. But BA is 90 and isn't looking for another rebuild. Best case, we'll be mediocre next season. Very depressing time to be a Titans fan.

Yeah David Climer takes a ton of flack for having a realistic opinion on the Titans organization.

But that article is spot on about them not making changes because the reality is that right now most people that would be an upgrade would rather go somewhere else.

What good coordinators are gonna want to come to the Titans on a team where the head coach is on the hot seat and could be fired at any point?

What good offensive coordinator is gonna want to come to Tennessee on a team where Chris Johnson is deceptively ineffective as a starting running back and Jake Locker only completes around 50% of his passes on a regular basis.

What good offensive coordinator is gonna want to come to Tennessee on a team where the front office allows the team to go into the season with no depth and terrible starters on the interior offensive. When they had $20 million left in cap space no less....

I dont think Te'o is needed. He could replace Ayers but there are far greater needs like interior line on the offensive and defensive side.

I don't know man. If you have the chance to get a franchise-type defensive player then you don't pass on it to reach for another position. You don't often see interior offensive linemen go that early in the draft. There are few defensive tackles worth a top 10 pick and they will likely be gone by 10.

Also Ayers and McCarthy both finished the season near the bottom of the league in pass coverage efficiency and missed tackle ratio.

All good points, but both are only second year players if my memory serves me correctly. Linebackers dont start hitting their stride until year 4-5 and usually play the position at a high level for 8+ tops. I think they need more time to develop. Now I agree with you on Ayers pass coverage but I have to give a pass to McCarthy due to the injuries he played through. I want Chance Warmack and will beat that home until April because I know he will start from day one.

It wouldn't break my heart. I just think that they really need a disruptive defensive tackle that would help that entire front 7 out on defense and they can still get a solid interior lineman in the 2nd round.
