Gibby called Bruce Walton a good friend. Replacing him with Pete Walker as pitching coach was one of toughest decisions he's had to make

Gibbons said Pete Walker will come up with some names for the bullpen coach role. Gibby will do the same and they'll compare.

Murphy is no longer the hitting coach but Gibbons said that he'll still help out Mottola in that role this season

"Any time you can promote from within organization does wonders for morale," Gibbons says.

Gibbons says he made all coaching decisions, bounced some things off AA. Is big on continuity.

Gibbons on new coaching staff: "I made all the decisions [AA said] this is your baby, go for it."
Gibbons and Hale managed vs. each other and coached together in minors. "Our friendship's big. We can trust each otter."
Gibbons: Mottola and Murphy will work as "a tandem" with hitters, although Murphy's main jobs are base running and working with outfielders.

Gibby says "it's important" to have a Spanish speaker on staff like Rivera because some players "may struggle with English like I do."

I don't believe those reports. I was reading them earlier AS I was listening to AA talk to Jeff Blair where AA (very convincingly I might add) said he and Gibby tossed around a few ideas this morning but that's about all they've done with regards to coaches.

I haven't looked into it at all, so I am wondering, Why does Walton have to go?
Personally, I enjoy speculating if his jog out to the mound is actually slower than his walk.

    I agree with Murphy entirely.

Acta would be an amazing bench coach to have, exactly the type of outlook on the game I'd be looking for in a bench coach. I agree that Hengten could get promoted to pitching coach, and I think the hitting coach job will be Mottola's moving forward.

Anyone know what Gibbons' coaching staff looked like when he was manager from 2004-2008?

Ernie Whitt as bench coach, Brad Arnsburg as pitching coach, Brian Butterfield as the 3rd base coach i believe. I know Denbo was the hitting coach in 2008 for 3-4 months, than he was fired...

Why does everyone want to get rid of Murphy?

Under his tutelage Bautista and Encarnacion had some of the best ever offensive seasons for Blue Jays. Granted, this hasn't worked for everyone but you can't hang Murphy for the guys regressing without giving him credit for the guys going the other direction.

Edit: Just to be clear, I wany both Murphy and Mottola up here, split the coaching duties. You do that with starters and bullpen coaches, why not hitting coaches?
