Smith, asked today if he has a plan on how long he will play his starters Sunday against the Buccaneers, said: “We’re going to play the game to win.”

“That’s how we approach it,” he said. “It’s an important game because it’s division game. All games are important. Does it have no bearing? It really does because we want to win every time we go out there to play.”

Falcons players are off until Wednesday. Smith said he and his staff will be at the team’s facility over the next couple days but won’t stay as late as usual.

This is the second time the Falcons have earned the NFC’s top seed with Smith as coach. They also had the conference’s best record in 2010 only to lose 48-21 to the Packers in their first playoff game.

Smith said that experience prompted him to alter his bye-week plan.

“We’re going to do things differently this time around during the bye week,” Smith said. “We’ll handle it differently in terms of our workload and the days that we are going to work during our bye week and what our schedule will be. We are not going to do anything like we did last time.”

I honestly won't know what to think if we have a first round exit again.

soemthing about this team is different. Not giving them a superbowl yet, but they're hungry and tired of hearing about early playoff exits

The Atlanta Falcons got some much-needed depth back on their offensive line Monday afternoon.

The team announced that Joe Hawley has been put back on the active roster after serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. The Falcons made room for Hawley by placing wide receiver Kevin Cone on injured reserve.

Prior to his suspension, Hawley was the top backup to center Todd McClure and guards Justin Blalock and Peter Konz. Hawley likely will step immediately back into that same role.

I don't see them playing starters the whole game, maybe half. It would be stupid to get hurt and be out of the playoffs for any starter. While too much rest is not good either, play them the first half then hit the shower!

Coach Mike Smith said safety William Moore will miss the regular-season finale. The Falcons are playing this one properly. Moore has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury and the finale is meaningless. The Falcons might as well let Moore rest and get completely healthy for the playoffs.

Willy Mo hasn't been living by his quota lately... He better be ready in the playoffs.

Roddy White (questionable, knee) missed Falcons practice again on Friday.

The Falcons have already locked up the NFC's No. 1 playoff seed. While White is tentatively expected to be active for Week 17 against the Bucs, he may not play more than a fistful of snaps. Check back Sunday for his status
