Man whatever... It is and always has been pretty bad @$$ to me. In my eyes, I've always seen Native Americans as a proud people, and those who were fighters (again this is just how I've seen it) were headstrong, intelligent, fierce warriors. I look at it as a sign of respect. And I like thinking of my baseball team as a group of fierce warriors who take the field and battle it out for 9 innings with a warriors mentality... Those who are finding something wrong with it are that same group of people who have to find something wrong with EVERYTHING... Let it go... Bigger fish to fry

haha, the redskins thing has 2 meanings. obviously, they have a native american as a logo. but if you've ever seen a game in dc, you'll see many fans with pig faces. not a weight joke, honest, but they have plastic masks that look like pigs. there's TWO meanings to redskins. footballs were made out of pigs, no?

i don't know what this changes about the racial undertones of the redskin franchise, though. another potential wrinkle to the discussion of the meaning of 'redskin,' i guess.

edit: i was wrong. 'hogs' came from o-line coach joe bugel in the 80s (later hc of the raiders) for the 'skins' offensive line. but the football itself and the 'hogs' are ALSO significant to the name 'redskin.'

I like the old logo. Bring back Chief Knockahoma. Maybe head on out to the reservation and hire an Indian to be our ballboy or waterboy. Then we won't be seen as racist. We'll be equal opportunity employers. Just have to get him his own teepee he can go in and out of just outside the dugout is all. Put some feathers on him and have him run around bare chested and hooting and hand hollering war cries. Lastly, we could keep a cigar store indian in the dugout: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV16ECAAACM

Its just a logo... I'd be proud if they had my image for a logo..

I think it looks more like a "Laughing Brave" instead of 'screaming', but in either case, a Brave is a symbol of honor amongst all groups of Native Americans....just like Warriors, Indians or Chiefs. I do see the possible objection to REDSKINS, which has a derogatory meaning. Personally, I remember Chief Nok-a-homa, his tent & the drums as much as anything when me and 4,999 others were at their games in the late '70s. IF, the political whiners keep up their non-sense, I have a suggestion to put the old feather logo on the hat instead of the Brave.

BTW: Anyone remember the name of the original pro baseball franchise in Atlanta? It's easy as ABC...the ATLANTA BLACK CRACKERS!!!!!!!!! Now try and defend that one...
