The only clutch everyday hitter the Yankees had after the 2001 world series not named Derek Jeter or Bernie Williams.

I salute you Hideki Matsui, A True Baseball and Yankee Legend.

I'll never forget his bashing of the most hated pitcher in recent Yankees history: Pedro Martinez. Just a great guy, and actually lived up to the hype when he came over. Love this guy. I wish him the best in his retirement with his sketched photograph of his "wife".

Seriously though. I'd consider Matsui a great Yankee. He accomplished a lot and may Godzilla live forever!

Matsui should be considered a Yankee great. Absolutely. He came over at a time when Japanese players really did not do all too well in the MLB. Not only should Matsui have won Rookie of the Year, but it turns out he is the best Japanese hitter to play in the MLB. One of my fave Yankees post dynasty.

It's sort of a joke that Ichiro won rookie of the year, but Matsui didn't.

It's even more of a joke that he lost ROY to Angel Berroa.

Lol absolutely not. I can't listen to any type of rap of today...give me anything pre-2000 and ok...but she is garbage.

Matsui was my second favorite Yankee, behind Jeter of course! I loved watching him hit in clutch situations and the way he played the game was on par with the greatest of all time. He seemed to catch fire when it mattered most.

I also loved his subtle ability to do so many of the little things well. Where have you gone Hideki Matsui?? No, no NO!
