    Start JR Smith Thread

I know not everyone likes JR Smith on this thread, but I have had enough with how anemic our offense is. The fact is we absolutely need JR Smith to not only start this year, especially with Stoudemire out, but we need him to play a good 35 minutes a game. Other than Melo, he is literally the only player on our team that can score in an isolation situation.

I don't care that JR Smith is a "sparkplug" or he's an "energy" guy..I think he's shown the preparation, confidence, and respect this offseason to earn the starting role. We need him.

Imagine Melo got injured along with Stoudemire?

Thank God Jr Smith resigned..otherwise we'd look like how we did when Billups and Stoudemire got injured in that playoff game two years ago and Carmelo was the entire team.

On a side note from this thread, I really miss Billy Walker. I'd go to war with that dude.
    PM for my contact information.

    Nah
The value of elite scoring ability, by Phil Jackson:

"This is a guy, we recognize his talent, and his skill is the kind of skill and talent that gets you through playoff games where things get sticky, grind-out, and basketball becomes a force game and suddenly you need to have a player who has the capabilities of scoring with someone hanging on them in a situation thatís critical. Heís one of those players, one of the few players who can do that.Ē

Hate to break it to you but if Melo & Amare are injured it really doesn't matter who else we have...

I have no problem starting JR as long as Amare is out, but I like him off the bench if we're healthy.

I think he's a starter in this league but we're stacked with starters. We need his dynamism, shooting and ball handling for that second unit.

I would start him with Prigoni since prigoni is weak on offense but if Felton starts I would bring jr of the bench.

You can go to war all you want with walker.
    You'll be the only one.

Woodson already said how he needs jr to settle in and be that spark off the bench.

But Woodson said that when Stat was supposed to start. Now Stat is out for a few weeks. I think that having 2 starting scorers (Melo + JR) would be good for the team. Then, when Stat comes back, he can be the 6th man.

He is MUCH better as our 6th man. He will have the freedom and green light with the second unit. Plus him and Novak have great chemistry and I also like how second unit will be led by Kidd and Prigoni who know how to keep guys under control.

Im actually wondering if we can start Copeland at the 3 or 4 against Brooklyn and Miami. Miami's playing small ball w/ Bosh at center and I think Copeland can hold his own against Humphries.

He also said that he didn't want to start jr in the preseason because he wants him to get used to coming off the bench. And that was with brewer and Shump both out.
I believe Thompson got the start that night.

I can assure you that Woodson has zero intention of starting jr.
