Update: FIU Hires Ron Turner as Head Coach

Whatever you may think of Butch Davis, he has a long line of success.

From being the defensive coordinator of Dallas' back-to-back Super Bowl teams in the early 1990s, to building Miami's incredibly talented roster later in the decade, to leading North Carolina to three straight eight-win seasons, Davis has been part of a lot of wins. And before making a joke about his time with the Cleveland Browns, it's worth noting that the newest incarnation of the Browns has made one playoff appearance, and Davis led that team.

Now Davis will see if he can recreate his success at a smaller school. Davis has been hired as Florida International's head coach, according to Patrik Nohe of the Miami Herald.

Update:

FIU executive director of sports and entertainment Pete Garcia said Monday afternoon when asked about the stories bouncing around the Internet that Butch Davis was in as FIU's next head football coach, "Butch Davis is not the FIU football coach. That story is totally false."

So, that's the official word from Camp Mitch for now. Still, I'd say expect an announcement Jan. 2-6.

I'm not sure, but it's a safe bet that Butch Davis won't be back with the Bucs in 2013. I think it's pretty obvious that he enjoys being a head coach and wants to get back in the game. I'm sure he'll find work somewhere if this FIU situation doesn't work out.

@aecon13 Pretty sure when he was fired from UNC there was a stipulation in his contract that he couldnt coach for a certain amount of years so there for we gave him that defensive specialist or whatever. That way he was not technically coaching. I really hope he takes over for Sheridan next year bc he’s god awful..
