Know how you feel.
My mum died last year a couple of days before my birthday. Over Xmas was pretty depressing and birthday this year will be too.
I still have dreams about her being in trouble and asking people around for help and everyone ignoring her (she died of a heart attack, when she was at home alone) but that feeling of I could have done something never goes away.
I try to take comfort in the life that she had, but she died in her mid 50's, and had a lot of emotional problems, and to be honest she didnt have the worst life, but not that great of a one either. And in the end I just tended to contact her less and less because of her issues. She was a kind hearted person, but got down a lot, and the last few years became a lot more insular.
Dont know if this helps any or I am just rambling myself.
