I don't know if you're specifically talking about an NBA court, but I was always taught to only take 3s after some movement and an attempt to get a dunk/layup - the most accurate shot in the game (just ask Tyson Chandler).

Yeah that's what they teach (and what I also believe) but players if they make one they take another two just to be sure. I agree with you though, even you are down 10, keep going to the basket.
