    Is CJ's record meaningless?

First off I firmly state no.

But according to one popular talk show host in the Detroit Area it is.

Another half a hundred passes. No tds. Stafford 2012. As empty as it gets. Incredible. 700+ passes...wont get to 20 td.

@MikeValenti971 Empty yardage time!!! This town sucks. You'd think this team just clinched home field advantage with that record & ovation.
@jpitel @billbarnwell no. Lions lose close. 4-11 always passing. Empty. Plus how many tds? Meaningless record in a wreck season.
@MikeValenti971 Empty yardage time. All the slappies are getting their Megatron butter ready to lather up in!

If you are under the impression that one player is responsible for whether his team does well or not, then yes. But if you are aware that it is a team sport and his team really doesn't have much support for him, then no.

I think he and his team are making the best of their season and trying to produce victories as best they can. Throwing the CJ is the best they can do right now and teams know that and he is still producing. I think it speaks to how great he is that the teams know its coming and there isn't a damn thing they seem to be able to do to slow him down.

No, but it means very little to me. I'm happy the Lions have an all time leader, but I honestly rather make the playoffs.

No one is asking if you rather make the playoffs than someone break a record. Anybody would rather make the playoffs.

I can see where he is coming from. Football is the ultimate team sport and when your team is bad the record is not as meaningful. To say that what Calvin is doing this year is entirely worthless is wrong though. Never quit playing until the final whistle blows so even if you are down 2 scores with 2 minutes to go you still have to play and still need to get your big time play makers the ball. CJ is the big playmaker here and we saw last year a couple of times he was able to carry us to victories, in situations that were screwed, so you have to keep giving him the ball. To me Calvin's record is still very important.

It was hard to celebrate while watching but I will look back when Im not quite as pissed at this team and find the good. Like you guys said he gives us our best chance to win so get him the ball. If we were getting beat and he wasn't getting the ball all the commentators would be saying we got to get the ball to calvin more. It just kind of shows what little talent we have on this team and how great calvin is to be putting up those kind of numbers while being the only guy on the field getting attention by the defense. Man we suck.

I wouldn't say it's meaningless, but it's certainly less meaningful compared to if we had more wins and was actually going somewhere after week 17, but to say it is meaningless is stupid, should he have stop trying because they have only won 4 games?

    1. He faces the toughest/most unique coverages of any WR in the game and is doubled basically 90+% of the time. He's also doing it with no one else, when teams know he's going to get the ball.

    2. ~5% of his yards have come in "garbage time," which is probably way less than many other #1s.

    3. The lack of TDs is a combination of bad luck (8 times tackled on 1 yard line, 3 TDs called back or dropped) and is also due to more rushing TDs in the redzone (14 I think).

    4. We don't have a RB who can consistently gain yardage, thus throwing is the only way we can win. I find it more impressive when teams know you're going to throw 40 times a game and still can't stop it very well.

    5. Wins? Our ST alone cost us 2. Coaching has cost us another 1 and defense has cost us a few more. It's a team game, Calvin alone can't win us games.
