who cares? It's a lost year anyway. Might as well see what the young guys can do. I dont even want to see Hairston back. I'd rather see if Duda, Kirk and Baxter can have bounce back years. We've seen flashes of very good productivity from all 3 guys. Then there is also Valdespin...

Well I still have hope on some fa's that I think could help us, I am all in on Nyjer Morgan! I think he can be our opening day cf'er and when Den Dekker is ready slide Morgan over to rf. We can get him cheap after a down year maybe 3yrs $10 mil. Also a few other names to look at:
    Ben Francisco
    Luke Scott
    Chone Figgins
Another guy I would look at is Carlos Lee, he got paid 19 mil last year but if no interest in him maybe we can get a steal for 1 year.

I also would like to see us look at some trades....Davis(tor), Bourjus(laa), Upton(zona)and a long shot Gordon or Butler(kc). I am not interested in Kubel, Parra or Wells. I still think there is some talent out there and I think it is just a matter of time and SA holding out for a good $$$ deal for us. JMO

Hairston can essentially hold us hostage for as much money as he wants considering we have no other options now.
Remember what Chris Rock said on Letterman? Still true.

Let's just play the young guys, lose a ton of games, and get a top 5 pick. Moving any real prospects for a guy who would help us for next year is a waste.

Parra is 25 years old and is arbitration eligible next offseason. Otherwise I would agree but I think Parra can be a OFer who can help us in 2013 and beyond.

Forget Hairston, let him go. He personifies the type of player who starts on a losing team, only prospects for me. Onward and upward.

He's kind of similar to Angel Pagan but Parra is the better fielder/little less of a base steeler.

The thing is that the Dbacks dont want/need to trade for pitching. I dont know what position players we could trade. Flores would probably get a deal done, he doesn't have a position for us while the Dbacks have no 3B.
I like Flores for Parra, but again isn't Parra just another of those peripheral guys. Not quite an everyday player, close but not quite.

I think if he was given the shot to be an everyday player he would be pretty solid. He started 124 games in 2011 and was really good.

He hasn't quite played everyday in AZ but he's been plenty productive....he's the ideal 4th OF who can start 100+ games a year.

What would Arizona want for Eaton. Valdespin, Flores, familia?

When .265 25hr 85 rbi 32 year old outfielders can get 4 years and $56 million, I can't get on the Mets for not signing free agents. And I can see why Hairston wants a nice raise.

When it's time to compete, that should be of no concern for the fans.

That's a pretty fair deal money wise for Swisher. Thought he would get more. I wouldn't want him 3-4 years from now, but that is what todays FA market dictates.

I wouldn't go for Parra either way though. The Mets have plenty of young, cost controlled, 4th outfielder types already. If we sign or trade for anyone he has to have high impact upside. I would take a chance trading prospects for Upton though.
