While Upton certainly has more upside and youth on his side, he'll likely command way more than Hughes + LHRP + prospect or filler...or whatever else has been proposed on here.
I don't think any of us want to see Ca$htits give up the farm for Morse, but again, Upton will almost certainly require a better prospect package than MM.
Based on the cost-cutting that's taken place this offseason and likely to trickle into next, we're unlikely to resign Hughes next year anyway, so we may as well trade him now and try to get some value for him while we can.
Why trade away a decent starter now? They are already committed to 2013 and trading Hughes weakens the rotation. Keep everybody and go for broke, then in 2014 start all over......
