4.06 away ERA, 31 years old, climbing walk rates. He's worse than Bailey.
I was going by what it was saying in the article![]()
oh i know just sayin
I'd take Hanrahan...I like him better than Bailey, he's obviously more reliable due to less injury concerns.
How about we take Hanrahan and Jones. GJ is pretty decent against RHP. So a platoon in LF Gomes/Jones might make some sense.

Id take him. He can compete for the closers job and be a decent back up for Bailey if he ends up being our closer and gets hurt again
Jones is one of their best players. He has three more years of control, the first two likely fairly cheap. Why would the Pirates deal him here?
They are not going to take broken/worthless pieces like Pimentel, Gomez, Hazelbaker, Fields, etc.
We'd have to give real live specs to get him. This seems like the least amount we'd have to give to start a conversation would be:
Salty, Brentz, Workman, Melancon, cash
to get Jones and Hanrahan

A relief pitcher with a career 4.35 BB/9 rate which spiked up to 5.43 BB/9 last season? Yeah, exactly what we need. I'd rather just let Bailey have it (provided health) with maybe a bit of Melancon and Bard thrown in, if they can get their heads together.
The Pirates also asked the Mariners for one of their top pitching prospects in return for Garret Jones.
They'll ask for Webster from us. No thanks.
I'm not high on Hanrahan, but Jones? I'd trade Webster for Jones - although I'd rather deal a package of lesser guys. Doesn't have much of a glove at 1B, and RF in Fenway would be tough for him, but on the road ha can play RF for sure, and he's a solid DH candidate after Ortiz is gone. He could be extended beyond his 3 years as I think he'd find Fenway to his liking. He kills RHP. He could be a #5 type hitter here vs RHP. Against LHP he should sit or bat 7th or 8th.
