2 years/14 mil for Liriano?? Jeez...especially from the Pirates, that's shocking. Glad we didn't get suckered into that one.

That's a pretty good deal money-wise, not so sure about the 2 years though. He's still young though and his stuff is nasty. He should thrive in the NL.
Pavano bombed in the Bronx but has been a very serviceable starter. I'd take a chance on him.
$7m a year for a guy coming off a 5.30 ERA? The Pirates seem to be cornering the market on overpriced underperforming has beens. Speaking of which what were Pavano's recent stats? CYoung looks like a better choice. What's Ben Sheet's status?

That Ollie deal will forever prevent this franchise from ever signing a starter to anything 12+ million per season. They offered Dickey 20 million for two seasons coming off a Cy Young campaign. Please someone explain to me that Ollie contract after you look at his 2008 numbers? Why did they give him that much of a raise for being mediocre?
The Pirates are hoping that they get similar results to what they got from Burnett. Problem is that Liriano just walks too damn many guys.
I can't see why the Mets don't take a chance on Jair. Guy was a promising pitcher (who might still have some promise left), is young, and would probably cost less then someone like a Pavano or Liriano (who has since signed for a 2 year 14 million deal)
Not to mention, Citi Field could be a huge boost for him as well. Maybe some Mets fans have more knowledge as to why there hasn't been a lot of word on him?
Lets just say he was to become at least 75-80% of what some thought he could be, a rotation of Wheeler, Harvey, Niese, Jair could be killer. Who cares about the fifth spot.
