Yesterday on WFAN, Sandy Alderson said free-agent LHP Francisco Liriano is on his list of pitchers who he would consider signing to join the Mets and compete for a spot in the rotation.

According to Alderson, he feels the Mets need a pitcher capable of winning at least 10 to 12 games, who can slot in to the rotation now that R.A. Dickey has been traded the Blue Jays. Jeremy Hefner, Colin McHugh and Jenry Mejia will all be considered in Spring Training for this position, but he expects to sign a veteran free-agent or two to compete as well.

Liriano was 6-12 in 34 starts last season with a 5.34 ERA for the White Sox and Twins.

The Twins have reportedly been working to re-sign Liriano, but talks have been going ‘backwards,’ according to the Star-Tribune.
