OK just seems random, and if you're goal is to platoon our crap lefty outfielders with a crap righty outfielder then... well OK...

Well not a bad trade. Iron glove Marte didn't have a position anyways. We're a little short on speedy outfield bats. Some part of me wanted Ty Wigginton back though for insurance and pinch hitting.

He's a solid RH bench outfielder. Plays an average CF, above average in corners. Steals a few bases. Line drivve swing with some on base ability (.336 OBP last season). Not much upside from here, but he was Oakland's #11 prospect per BA last year. Marte didn't make our top 30.

Marte might have a little more upside, but he was behind both Flores and Rodriguez on the depth chart at 3B, and Matt Reynolds might end up at 3B as well. Nothing wrong with using a spare part to fill a big league role. This one wasn't about winning the trade, it was about putting together the roster.

    Agreed 100%.

He is a nice defender in RF, but range comes up a little short in CF. Perfect 4th OF type for us since he's a righty.

I posted this in the other thread, but he doesn't K much, has moderate power, and his numbers in Arizona's farm are solid. I like the move. Hopefully he can play well for us. It's not sexy like d'Arnaud, but this is a good baseball move. Clearing a logjam at 3B in the minors for an OF at the ML level.

So our OF will consist of The Dude, Captain Kirk, and the Cowgirl?

Still need starters, but hes a nice depth guy. 13 homers 30 steals in the minors in 2011

    Duda, Kirk, Baxter/Cowgill

Kirk probably needs a platoon partner too.

Lots of talk about Cowgirl and Dickey. Should be an exciting season.

Career .298/.379/.405 vs LHP in 84 AB in the big leagues.

Plus his whole major league career so far has been a small sample size, so he might be able to do better.

He does have a quick bat:
