Let's say the Jays go with a platoon for the DH spot. A quick look at the splits on fangraphs.com makes it a pretty interesting composite.
I'm guessing a Lind/Davis platoon could get anywhere from 500-550 ABs, depending on health, and when others fill the DH spot occasionally (e.g. Bautista, etc.). But with that in mind, the composite DH spot spot consisting of Lind/Davis would accrue the following stats, ballpark (pun intended):
Lind with 400 AB, 20 HR, 65 RBI and a .282 BA (again, career splits against righties)
Davis accrues maybe 150 AB, 3 HR, 15 RBI, and a .290 average with 15 SB's (again career splits against lefties).
So, the DH spot could possibly put up a line like this:
(In 550 AB's) 23 HR, 80 RBI, .284 BA with 15 SB.
That's a decent line, and totally reasonable given their respective career stats. And they aren't old enough to show clear decline with the bat this year, or the next for that matter.
How much would the Jays pay for a DH that could get those numbers? This year that combination is $7.5M.
And it's not like we lose Davis off the bench, either. Lind would DH most of the time, so Davis is available then. Also, When Davis is playing, Boni would be a great guy with wheels off the bench.
If the experiment fails, we trade for Morneau.
Anyway, what sort of results, composite, could you see a platoon of Lind/Davis recording in 2013?
