    Lind/Davis Platoon: Prediction

Let's say the Jays go with a platoon for the DH spot. A quick look at the splits on fangraphs.com makes it a pretty interesting composite.

I'm guessing a Lind/Davis platoon could get anywhere from 500-550 ABs, depending on health, and when others fill the DH spot occasionally (e.g. Bautista, etc.). But with that in mind, the composite DH spot spot consisting of Lind/Davis would accrue the following stats, ballpark (pun intended):

Lind with 400 AB, 20 HR, 65 RBI and a .282 BA (again, career splits against righties)

Davis accrues maybe 150 AB, 3 HR, 15 RBI, and a .290 average with 15 SB's (again career splits against lefties).

So, the DH spot could possibly put up a line like this:

    (In 550 AB's) 23 HR, 80 RBI, .284 BA with 15 SB.

That's a decent line, and totally reasonable given their respective career stats. And they aren't old enough to show clear decline with the bat this year, or the next for that matter.

How much would the Jays pay for a DH that could get those numbers? This year that combination is $7.5M.

And it's not like we lose Davis off the bench, either. Lind would DH most of the time, so Davis is available then. Also, When Davis is playing, Boni would be a great guy with wheels off the bench.

If the experiment fails, we trade for Morneau.

Anyway, what sort of results, composite, could you see a platoon of Lind/Davis recording in 2013?

I don't think your too far off, Although Davis will get way more than 15 stolen bases in 150 AB's. He'll probably get 30+ stolen bases in the 45 or so games that he'll start. I would welcome a trade for Morneau and seeing as season tickets are selling like hot cakes, the added money shouldn't be a problem. If they can't I'd be okay with a platoon, and then maybe a guy like Brandon Inge could fill that last roster spot. I'll just take a random shot and guess For 550 AB's a line of 26HR, 83RBI, .295BA and 33SB.

obp wouldn't be very good, lots of strikeouts still. I'll say .320 to .330, and for OPS I'll guess .857

I would love to get those stats...I couldn't find career OBP or OPS when I filtered by career and splits on fangraphs.com - I didn't look too long, but I would love to know them, too. They we could give Lind and Davis's weights according to AB % of the composite, etc. It'd be a nice comparison to other full-time DH's, like Ortiz. it might be intersting.

Our DH has been such a black hole for so long...I'd be almost ecstatic for an OPS over .800

No way that combination posts an OPS anywhere near .857.

If media reports are correct and were pretty well at max payroll, I'd expect Lind/Davis to be our DH. If they can post .280 ba, 25 hr, 80+ rbi, 25 sb's with an .800+ OPS, I'd be very pleased.

You could also see Moses Sierra playing against lefties maybe?

    Career numbers, OBP, OPS, wOBA

    Lind (vs R): 0.335, 0.836, 0.358
    Davis (vs L): 0.349, 0.766, 0.338

My guess is a strict platoon would be a wOBA around 0.345 or so, not bad for a cheap DH.

Lind's had a sub .800 OPS against righties each of the past two seasons, and that was in a fulltime role. I think pretty much every one of these predictions have been on the optimistic side.

Haha I know there is very little to no chance of it happening, I was just taking a random stab at it hoping both can over achieve or in Linds case, return close to 09 form. Just pumped for the season and hope our lineup can play to it's potential.
