Just a little bummed we gave up Marte, but I guess we had a log jam of 3B and no OF at the ML level.

    Cowgirl, welcome to the Mets.
This seems to be more of a move for the Las Vegas 51s.

I'm not bummed at all. We needed a guy like Cowgill and Marte is all potential. Plus he has no future role here at all.

Played for the University of Kentucky, so he immediately becomes one of my favorite Mets.

Someone tell me how this move shows that we are not planning on tanking this season?

They are just trying to get depth with this guy. He has a chance to be a nice fourth OF, not much more. Lots of speed though if he can get on base

If Valdespin plays everyday, I expect a .250/.290/.420 line. Nothing special, but he plays good defense and has more speed on the bases. Not to mention he's cheap, still young, and able to improve.
I'd play Valdespin out in CF or RF, he played + defense at the corners, and we can still have Murphy's contact at the 2 hole.

    Opening Day 2012
    C- Buck; 1B - Ike, 2B - Murphy, 3B - Wright, SS - Tejada, LF - Duda, RF - V-Spin, CF - Kirk

Plus defense everywhere sans LF and 2B, and we need all the defense we need given our young pitchers.

No he's not. I want Valdespin to play 2B only, he's not a very good outfielder because he is more quick than fast. That team you laid out there sucks.

How does the team look better by removing Spin from the outfield and putting him at 2B? You then have to bench Murphy, and now you have a CF spot to fill.

Murphy is a quality bench player. That's all he should be.

Yeah, but as it stands I just don't see who you're replacing that bat with.

"That bat" is nothing special, lacks upside, and is getting more expensive by the year.

I wish for once us getting a guy like this pans out like Jayson Werth did in Philly. I know it did pitching wise with Dickey, but I'd love one of these scrap heap guys in the OF to turn out to be a solid everyday guy at the very least.

I think Cowgill has that potential, but I'm expecting more of a Mike Baxter than a Nelson Cruz or Jayson Werth
