If you break it down more and add the 5 million Dickey makes next year, it is 3 years at 30 million. He is making 10 million a year compared to 13.25 million for Dempster.

Dempster thinks he's worth a damn and convinced a team he was. Team was ********

Dickey knows when to take a good deal when he sees one plus he leaves a bad team and goes to a possible World Champion contender

when I first saw this I thought it was going to be someone comparing how great Dempster is, and maybe from a Sox fan saying they are just as good as the Jays because they signed Dempster.

Dickey wanted to cash in quick and take advantage of being able to sign an extension for good money. He could have gotten more but was willing to get below his value to get it done quick.

If he bombs next season or gets hurt then he probably wouldn't be looking at half the amount he signed for. This could have been his last chance.

I read somewhere that 2 years 25 mil was the starting offer and Dickey accepted it and didn't ask for more.

for a guy who is 38 and hasn't really made all that much money through the MLB, 25 million dollars probably seems like a ton of money (which it is).

Yeah your right. The Red Sox are really screwing themselves over long-term with all these 1 and 2 year deals they are giving to players who have been successful in the past while they rebuild.

You do realize Dickey cost you 2 of the best prospects you have in your system while Dempster cost the Sox a cheque and some ink right?

The upside to both pitchers are very different though.
