Best Trades & Worst Trades In MLB History

Worst Trade : On August 12, 1987, the Atlanta Braves dealt pitcher Doyle Alexander to the Detroit Tigers for minor league pitcher John Smoltz.

Best Trade : On December 5, 1990, Alomar and Joe Carter were traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Fred McGriff and Tony Fernández.

    Fun facts:

Alexander went to the Tigers and went 9-0 for a 98 win team in 1987, the year of the trade. He put up an ERA under 2.

Smoltz at the time was putting up an ERA close to 6 in AA with almost as many walks allowed as strikeouts.

OTOH, we now have hindsight on our side to declare the TRUE winner...

I'm going to go with any trade in which a prospect, struggling or not at the time, turned into a star while the veteran he was traded for was not a superstar. All context of each trade should be eliminated.

Pretty sure that trade worked out well for my Braves

Now the Tex trade for Andrus, Harrison, Salty and Feliz is another animal

We got raped Gangnam Style on that one.

it's easy to look back on a trade and see that it didn't work out, but at the time a trade might not have been bad.

example. the Toronto Blue Jays traded with the Pittsburth Pirates. the Jays got Jose Bautista, and the Pirates got Robinzon Diaz. this was when Bautista still sucked.

    these are some I've noticed..

Cleveland Indians got- Shin Soo Choo, Shawn Nottingham
Seattle Mariners got- Ben Broussard, cash.

Chicago Cubs got- Aramis Ramirez, Kenny Lofton, cash
Pittsburgh Pirates got- Bobby Hill, Jose Hernandez, Matt Bruback

    Cincinnati Reds got- Brandon Phillips.
    Cleveland Indians got- Keven Stevens.

    Montreal Expos got- Pedro Martinez.
Los Angeles Dodgers got- Delino Dehields.

    Houston Astros got- Jeff Bagwell
Boston Red Sox got- Larry Andersen.

Because we can see it as it is now, it's hard NOT to say the Miguel Cabrera trade would be one of the best/worst if you're Detroit/Miami.
