Championship
By the way, the 40 man roster is already at 40, so someone will need to be designated for assignment. They'll also need another spot eventually if they don't use Valle as the backup C while Ruiz is out, or once Ruiz returns.
Savery, Robles, and Inciarte are the most likely to be designated. Valdez, Schwimer, and Stutes could also be designated, but it's less likely.

Calling it, Stutes will have a bounce back year.
So bullpen is now:
Papelbon
Adams
Bastardo
Durbin
and some combination of Aumont, Stutes, De Fratus, Diekman, Schwimer?
I have to believe they'll want a second lefty, so Diekman (or maybe Valdes) is in. So really, you have Aumont, Stutes, and De Fratus fighting for two spots. [] Still, depending on what Durbin's role is, I kind of would have prefered letting the younger arms pitch some of those important innings.

I think the idea with Aumont is to let him continue working on his control in the minors, especially if Adams is healthy. DeFratus might need a little time to prove himself rebounded from injury.
There's a whole mix of arms that could factor into the rest of the pen, but one of them should be a multi-innings guy unless they see that as Durbin's role. Personally, I think that's something best saved for young pitchers.

I like this signing! The return of the Durbinator

Like the signing, Durbin wanted to stay here but we didn't think he was worth the money at the time. Nothing wrong with a decent bullpen arm compared to the bums we threw out there last season.
THANK YOU DANNY B #48
I've always viewed Durbin as one of the unsung heroes of the '08 season, he filled a lot of different roles for us. Having said that, it's not 2008 anymore.
Hopefully he can repeat his success from last year for us, welcome back old friend
