1995 was a damn good year for passing.. Herman was #4 in history with 1686 that season, Perriman was like 15th with 1488, Rice broke the record and Bruce had nearly 1800 yards

a classic Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit against the Minnesota Vikings. Moore (127 yards), Perriman (153), and Johnnie Morton (102) all eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark, and Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders rushed for 138 yards, and quarterback Scott Mitchell passed for 410 yards in a 44-38 Lions' shootout victory.
^I remember that game... Would be awesome to see our current lions pull something like that off, 3 100yard wrs 140 yards from a single back..

Part of it is that peterson and manning are having amazing years coming off of bad injuries and the larger part of it imo is that the lions suck...espn/media in general don't cover detroit very much...Add in the fact that we have won 4 games and that's why it isn't talked about.

In any case I think its more impressive that every team we play knows we are going to chuck it to him and he still comes away with 100+ yards a game.

That's the amazing part, we dont have a running game, everyone knows we're passing the ball, we don't have a decent #2 wr or #3 wr... ALL WE HAVE IS CJ. Yet he still gets his yards.

can you imagine how dynamic we'd be if we had a decent #2 wr and a running game that kept defenses honest?

As Vikings running back Adrian Peterson threatens Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing yardage record, Dickerson says he doesn’t want Peterson to top him. But as Lions receiver Calvin Johnson threatens Jerry Rice’s single-season receiving yardage record, Rice has a different view.

Rice, who rewrote the NFL record book during his 20-year career, said on SportsCenter that it won’t bother him if Johnson breaks the record he set in 1995, when he had 1,848 receiving yards.

“I have 40 records. I don’t mind giving him one,” Rice said of Johnson. “This guy is just awesome on the football field, and it shows his dedication.”

In fact, Rice said he’s not only hoping that Megatron (currently at 1,667 yards) gets 182 yards over the Lions’ final two games to break the single-season yardage record. Rice would like to see Megatron get 333 receiving yards over the final two games and become the first player in NFL history to have 2,000 receiving yards in a season.

“Calvin wants to get the 2,000 mark,” Rice said. “That was my goal also. I wanted to get to the 2,000 mark. I never knew 1,848 was the record, I wanted to get to 2,000.”

Getting to 2,000 would be a stunning achievement for Johnson, who’s making a strong statement that he’s the best receiver the NFL has seen since Rice was in his prime.

Good thing for CJ going for the record. It's the only thing we have this year.

65 yards to break the record. Hopefully he can do it today
