The Marlins are a VERY GOOD comparison. Look at the supporting pieces from the 2012 Marlins opening day roster:

    Marlins - Jays

    Reyes - Reyes
    Stanton - Bautista
    Lee - Encarnacion
    H. Ramirez - Lowrie
    Morrison - Cabrera
    Bonifacio - Bonifiacio

    Johnson - Johnson
    Sanchez - Dickey
    Buehrle - Buehrle
    Zambrano - Morrow
    Nolasco - Romero

Anyways, Drew is a nice 1 year bridge deal to our top hitting prospect SS/3B Xander Boegarts!

I'm not going to bother arguing about this because you're entitled to your opinion and I doubt either of us will change each others minds, but do you think Carlos Lee, who was not on the Marlins opening day roster, is a valid comparable to Edwin Encarnacion? Just curious, I don't really care it just kinda stood out to me among your comparisons. (Well, that and Morrow/Zombrano).

I understand why he got 9.5. But he isn't worth 9.5

Shortstops aren't readily available. And the Red Sox want a short term deal, and it's Scott Boras.

Supply and demand made this deal happen. Not Drew's worth.

9.5 mill is a bit pricey IMO, but not bad 1 year deal. High reward I guess.

His last productive year was 2010, and that was average at best.

Just about every baseball analysis on ESPN picked the Marlins to win the NL East and some picked them to go to the Series.

Regarding everyone about the stop gap situation and this offseason as a whole i dont see anyone here that we signed as being stop gaps besides drew. This front office believes this team is going to win lol. They wont....personal here is what my signings would have.been, Stephen drew, nick Swisher, david ross, mike Adams, jp Howell, Ryan ludwick, Shawn Marcum, brandon mccarthy Scott cannot league deal.

Then I woulda taken the trade of lackey for Wells just to upgrade the starting 5

    That gives us
    CF Ellsbury
    2B Pedroia
    DH Ortiz
    LF Ludwick
    1B Swisher
    3B Middlebrooks
    SS Drew
    C Salty
    RF Kalish/Wells

    Bench
    C Ross
    1B Gomez
    INF Pedro
    OF Wells/ Kalish

    Starting 5
    1 Buchholz
    2 Lester
    3 Marcum
    4 Mcarthy
    5 Doubront
    LRP Bard
    MRP Howell
    MRP Tazawa
    MRP Miller
    SU Adams
    SU Breslow
    CL Bailey

Now that's a team that will contend

Over priced, but at 1 year, it won't hurt. He is only a stopgap.

I think this makes good sense for the Sox. They get a one year deal on a pretty good shortstop while their future shortstop gets one more year of development. If there was a better option out there for them I dont see it.

I understand your point, but his 2010 was not close to average. It was much better.

I dont mind over paying on one or two year deals. its the 6-8 year deals that got us in trouble.

Couldn't resist could ya? your hate for the Jays is quite comical. You seriously just compared Lawrie to Hanley Ramirez, Carlos Lee to EE,Morrison to Cabrera,Sanchez to Dickey, and Zambrano to Morrow? It's like you aren't even trying anymore. Go look up the stats, post them here, and make the argument. I'd love to see it.
