See buddy, this is the type of stuff that I'd like to see from you from now on. Good job posting this thread. I'll wait for the details, but on a 1-year deal? Awesome. If he can rebound he'd be a nice trade target for other teams at the deadline. Loving our offseason so far.

    Drew gets $9.5M salary. #redsox
We definitely over-payed, but like it's been said numerous times, we can afford to do so on short-term deals.

I am fine with overpaying for a one year deal, we needed more depth at SS anyways. At least Drew has a chance of bouncing back. We are stockpiling guys we could move at the deadline, hopefully we continue.

Too much money, but no specs were dealt, and Drew should break down around the time XB might need a shot, or Iglesias can prove again that he can't hit ML pitching (even if his August is really really really hot like last year at AAA).

He could be at best a .260/.320/.395 HR: 9 2B: 27 average fielding SS worth about 1.5 rWAR

Ha Ha. I have no problem with the deal. I would take a look at it to see the details but if it is for 9 mil a year, i have no problem with it.

This a Better link. It is for 9 mil a year. Cherington does have a plan. Sign as much good clubhouse guys like the dirtdogs like Trot Nixon, Johnny Damon, Bill Mueller to help groom and bridge to the prospects. That's not a bad plan if you really think about it.

It is up to John Farrel to coach this team up.

I wonder if JD helped sway his little brother into signing with Boston. At least Cherington is attempting to make this bridge season a bit easier to cross...I don't know. They'll be competitive, but still nothing done in this offseason is telling me that they want to win the World Series.

    A villain big and bold.
And the trees all shake and quiver and quake,
As he robs them of their gold.

Who hijacked EEasyA's account? lol. The spacing is a whole lot better, his posts contain content worth reading, and he's more of a glass-half full character. Good for you.

It's simply not practical for the Sox to win the WS in '13 without destroying the farm system, and even then our chances would be at best 15%. It just isn't a wise course of action IMO.

I have very low expectations, but he could easily exceed them. It's an interesting signing. The type that makes sense given that Jose Iglesias still needs to learn how to recognize pitch selections and really hit.

I like this signing...even if they did over pay. It's a classic Borass, rebuild your value contract. But, the Sox do have a couple of trade bait targets for the deadline. Dempster could be traded (if the Sox pick up a majority of the contract). Same with Lackey (if he comes back in a better form). Now Drew..(if he rebuilds his value,).

IMO the sox are setting themselves up to get a few good returns for the trade deadline.

    Let the stocking up begin!

1 year is fine. If it was a multi year deal then I would have a problem with this signing

Holding the stat for XB or Iglesias if he can figure things out in AAA. Overspent but its a one year deal. I couldn't care how much we spend as long as we are committing ourselves to 5+ years for anyone dumb.
