So why wouldn't they consider trading a great ballplayer now (when they're not going anywhere) for a chance to have one or two outstanding players and a couple more quality regulars down the road, to help them get back into the picture?
That package may get their attention, but then you'll have another team come along and blow that package away. The market will push the price up to top prospects.
