He was barely a top 15 prospect in his draft, if that. One of the most surprising #1 overall picks of all time, especially since they took him as a SS (most questioned his ability to hit).

All this to avoid paying Weaver or Drew, both the most hyped prospects in that draft.

Yes, ahead of Verlander, who was questioned due to some control and mechanical issues in college, especially his last season. Weaver and Drew were the big names, but their big names came with big price tags.

I don't think he's nearly talented enough to warrant another shot after all this. Remember how freakishly skilled Hamilton is, taking a shot on a guy like that even after all the crack made a lot more sense than Bush, who to my best recollection has had virtually 0 success anywhere in his pro career.

Josh Hamilton was just hurting himself physically with the heroin stuff, and was cleaned up by his mid-late 20s. Plus he was way, way more talented.

Matt Bush is just a guy who's thrown his life away. I can't even think of any players in the league with this guys kind of character history or track record for disappointment.
