Whatever interpretation you choose to make is equally absurd. It's simply a matter of shifting the timeframe in such a manner so that it aligns with the respective career arcs of their marquee players and talent as currently assembled. It that sense, it doesn't diminish the organization at all.

It diminishes the organization in the literal sense that more value is leaving the organization than coming back, if the reports of assets involved in the trade is accurate. It's simply a matter of a disproportionate amount of value exchanged.

    And his contract is HUGE!

His injuries have really caught up with him. I hope he returns to being at least a decent starter in the Majors.

Jays agree in principle to acquire R.A. Dickey pending an extension

I wish that the Jays win the WS this year like that Reyes and Dickey get a ring.

I'm guessing RA Dickey is to Mets fans what Halladay is to Jays fans.

Dickey is a folk hero to us. Just his story alone is amazing, never mind his baseball success.

Well I'm no Met fan, so I can't confirm this, but Dickey to the Mets isn't close to Halladay.

Halladay was brought up a Jay.
He is the epitome of greatness, and coming back from adversity.

He was a good prospect. He struggled immensely in his early years. Went to the minors. Came back with a different mentality. Became one of the best pitchers in baseball.

I would compare RA Dickey to Jose Bautista.

As I said, Dickey is to Mets fans what Halladay is to Jays fans.

Halladay had a remarkable story himself.

and you would be wrong...Halladay got the 3 best prospects Philly had. D'Arnaud, Drabek and Taylor, Drabek at the time rated higher than D'Arnaud or Syndergard does now. IIRC Drabek was # 7 on BA top 100 at the time

and Dickey had a better year this year than Halladay had when he was traded.

plus the Jays are getting more than just Dickey

Comparing the 2 trades, the Jays got off cheaply especially contractually

3 yrs 60M for Roy, and probably 3 yrs 30M for Dickey (when extended)

basically you just wanted him for nothing

Dickey is just a normal dude, he is not like pretty much every other professional athlete, because he's not that athletic. He's just a normal guy like all of us who worked really hard at something and became good at 1 thing in a sport of many aspects. Now he is rich and famous because of it.

2 years ago when I went to Mets spring training, Dickey rode his bike to the stadium every morning.
