I like Dempster. He's a solid mid rotation guy. Just dont try to trade him. He don't like that.

Good luck to him. He did so well in the AL his first time round in Texas. His ERA was what? around 5? Now dealing with the pressure cooker that is Boston and the AL East - that will be a breeze. If this is in fact the case. My over/under on wins is 11.5 and ERA of 4.75.

I don't think this really helps the Red Sox, unless they were looking for an innings eater.
    2012 with the Cubs - 2.20/1.04
    2012 with the Rangers - 5.09/1.43
    2011 - 4.80/1.45
    2010 - 3.85/ 1.32

I would expect something in between 2011 and 2010.

I don't know the money, but I bet Boston is overpaying.

    Lester, Buchholz, Dempster, Doubront, Lackey

If they all pitch to potential that's solid... but that is probably the biggest 'if' ever typed...

The past 5 years hes been a solid SP. 3.7 or so ERA over his past 5 seasons. 200 IP 4/5 last seasons. Solid K numbers.

Negatives: Hes getting older. Struggled a bit in Texas. Plays in the best division now.

Overall I think its a good addition. I think Dempster would help any team really.

Yeah, he will probably be their most consistent starter in a very questionable rotation

I don't think you should go back 5 years. that includes 2009 when he had 3.65/1.31 and 2008 when he had 2.96/1.21. he was 31/32 years old then. he's now 35.
he has good potential, but I don't think he ends up being as good as some would expect.
he might be consistent, consistently average/below average.
