I wouldn't trade Montero for a rookie pitcher even without the past history and bad mechanics. It's simply stupid. Young pitchers simply have a much higher percentage of burn out. Pineda was a ticking time bomb. He didn't even have a reliable third pitch!!

I still laugh over the fact that AA passed on Pineda to keep Lawrie, but Cashman bit with higher tier prospect. Cashman never ceases to unimpress me.

In all fairness I'm sure he was 1000% into Seattle baseball.

Isn't he playing for Seattle again next year? Has something happened to inspire him to be better?

By the way, he showed an extreme inability to hit RH pitching last year, which is unfortunate since RH pitchers outnumber LH pitchers by a large margin. He hit just .228 vs. RH and .322 vs. LH.

Maybe his future is in being the RH half of a DH platoon.

Recently, that's certainly been the case (Beltre, Figgins, etc.).

The mid-90s teams had some good hitters though (Buhner, Edgar Martinez, Griffey, A-Rod).

I'm beginning to think it was this. I'm willing to wait and see how he does this year before throwing dirt on him though.

I agree and disagree I would like them to spend less, don't wanna be the only team over 200 million yearly.... and when they win, its like well they spent enough....so big deal
