    The Mike Illitch Appreciation Thread

Thank you for being unselfish with YOUR your money. You're one of the few reasons why Detroit isn't the world's biggest crap hole and you give optimism and hope to city in need.

Yes! Thanks for all the effort you've put in building both the Red Wings and Tigers into contenders, or at the very least playoff capable teams.

Too bad they wouldn't let him buy the Pistons(I think)
Good thing I don't like Basketball.

I know it's probably hyperbole, but best owner in sports.

Mr. I, thank you for your willingness to spend for a contender, for making the team competitive, fun to watch, and allowing me to bring my family to a meaningful baseball game. It is because of you and the success of the Tigers that my two boys love the Tigers! Thank you!

No doubt Illitch has and continues to spend money to try to win the world series. Perhaps some of the deals are ridiculous, but its his money and he can spend it however and on whomever he pleases.

Will be interesting to see what happens when the big guys become available (e.g., Verlander, Scherzer, Cabrera). This team is built to win NOW. I certainly don't want Verlander to go anywhere and think he should stay a Tiger for his entire career. Will probably take at least 25m per year on average to get him and he absolutely deserves it. The guy continues to get better every single year.

I worry about what happens IF they do win. Will there be somewhat of a firesale to get rid of the contracts.

Yeah, I supposed I should spend BIG tonight and pick up an $8.75 deep dish pepperoni...seems like my duty as a Die Hard Tiger-fan!

On top of spending all the money he has spent on the Wings and Tigers making us relevant again, he also pours POURS money into the city of detroit. Recently he supported a bill that would allow him to break ground on a multipurpose venue for the city of detroit. I forget what business class it was back in college, but I had to research a philanthropist that wasn't on the list our professor handed out. I easily chose Ilitch and had much material to work with.
