    Trade Dickey and Niese?

Is there any chance we trade both Dickey and Niese. Trade Dickey for D'Arnaud and Gose and trade Niese and Valdespin and maybe another decent prospect for Justin Upton. It'l give us a very good young team and a chance to see our young kids play.

    D'Arnaud
    Davis
    Murphy
    Wright
    Tejada
    Flores
    Gose
    Upton

    Thole
    Duda
    Cedeno
    Hairston
    Niewenhuiss

    Johan
    Harvey
    Gee
    Mejia
    Familia

I'm assuming one of the last two is decent and one sucks so replace the one that sucks with Wheeler halfway through the year. Obviously we still need an improvd bullpen so use the rest of the money to sign relievers. That lineup is great and bench is great. Rotation has the potential to be great but also has the potential to suck. But remember, we aren't built to win this year. Over the next few years out of all the great pitching prospects we have, we will find 5 that work.

Arizona isn't trading Upton. Also our pitching would be miserable.

Trading Niese would be a bad idea.

Arizona already stated a few days ago that they have ZERO plans to trade Upton.

And of course, the other teams will agree to make those trades because we want them to, right?

If we give them Dickey and Niese, then I want Travis d’Arnaud AND either Aaron Sanchez or Noah Syndergaard.

We'd be giving them an ace in Dickey, and Niese who is in control for 4 more years.

    I would rather keep Niese.

You don't trade them both, you trade one or other other. Trading both would mean going into the year our most reliable known commodity in the rotation is Dillon Gee.

You don't trade Niese, locked up lefties that are 27 and #3 are too valuable.

Our pitching staff isn't going to be all that great with Robert Allen. Everyone's making a lot of assumptions about Matt Harvey based on a very small sample.

Well, it's not going to be as good as it was last year, for sure, unless Harvey and Wheeler have tremendous seasons. And even if they do, Wheelz isn't coming up until later in the year, ala Harvey last season, so yeah, it won't be so hot.

But, if those two become who we think they can become...watch out.

You just shot your starting rotation down the toilet because Wheeler ain't ready yet. The rotation would be Harvey who needs to be eased in with Gee, possibly Young, Mejia and Santana coming back from injury. That's a disaster. At that point you need to sign meatball Pelfrey as a warm body.

The problem is that you're now leaning heavy on the kids to produce NOW. We tried that once before with Generation K and it didn't work out so well. Worked great though in the Doc Darling years so who knows?

Still, I'd feel a lot more secure if we still had Robert Allen. I just hope this trade is every bit as good as people in here think it will be.

Either way foC Dickey won't be around by the time this organization is ready to compete. If we keep him we waste his value on a low 70 win team. They have to make this trade.

To be fair, we're two legit outfielders and a #5 insurance starter away from being a playoff team. Sign any two of the following outfielders in Choo; Hart, Gomez, Moralez, or Young, along w/ a Freddy Garcia or Chien-Ming-Wang and we're back at it.

That's an assumption I wasn't willing to make. Silly to think they couldnt build a team with Dickey still here. Sure, if he brings back a haul that fill some holes its a good thing. The problem is that there's an assumption the pitching staff will be strong without him when it probably won't be.

And a strong pitching staff can make up for a whole host of shortcomings.
