But that means Porcello would still be in the rotation.

I would think Smyly, Castellanos, and maybe a mid level arm would get it done.

Find the toolsy guys that Towers likes in your organization and give em up

And that's an all righty rotation too
Why would Arizona want a package built around Smyly coming off surgery, one strong batting prospect, and then one mystery "mid level" arm for three years of Justin Upton?

Even ignoring that Upton is worth more than Smyly and Castellanos, the D'Backs already have plenty of young SP options for 2013. There's Kennedy, McCarthy, Cahill, Miley, Hudson, Skaggs, Corbin...Smyly would be 8th on the depth chart.

    Not a bad deal.

He isnt comparable to Greinke at all either, for those who think so.
You have no idea how excited I am right now.

I dont even think Sanchez is that good....he's a solid pitcher nothing more nothing less and this is obviously an overpay.....but I truly don't understand the fascination behind Greinke, calling him an ace, worth the biggest pitching contract in history, etc. Outside of 2009 (3 entire seasons ago), he's been a very good but not great pitcher IMO.

as a marlins fan who has watched him for his whole career. he is not worth close to that. he is a nice number 3 pitcher, nothing special. he doesnt go deep into games consistently enough.

    hes just not this good.

He has averaged 5.68 WAR/year over the last 5 years, including over 9 in one of them. That goes along with a 3.21 FIP and 3.23 xFIP in an average of ~208 IP over the same time period.

He is a very very good pitcher, and is at the beginning of his prime.

IF the Jays get Dickey they might have a rotation that could rival it.

Sanchez is not worth this much money. He is an average pitcher. Whatever though, our pitching rotation is the best in baseball.

    **** you

He's worth the money in this market. Just wish we didn't have to go a 5th year.
