Cubs in "serious" discussions with Anibel Sanchez

Sources: #Cubs in serious discussions with Anibal Sanchez. Deal could be 5 years/$75 million. #Tigers still a threat.

    Apparently Nightengale says it's done.

Not bad. Garza and Sanchez is pretty good. I would assume Garza is not going to be traded now?

No idea. Don't forget about Jeff Samardjiza, either. Top 30 FIP/xFIP in MLB last year.

3 solid pitchers. Another player the Rangers couldn't sign.

I'm actually surprised he signed for 5/75. But good deal for the Cubs.

A healthy Garza, Sanchez and Samar...the ND wide receiver. Makes a nice top of the rotation. Thrilled that the Tigers whiffed on him.

edit: Oh and with Sanchez going to a team nobody expected Gavin Floyd should fetch us something useful.

Hmm. Interesting signing considering their organizational stance.

I really thought Epstein would remain patient this time around since he had said he regretted some of splashy moves he made while in Boston due to pressure.

15 million a year is good for Sanchez. Dembster just got 13 million a year at 35 years old. This guy is 28.

I didn't say the contract was bad on it's own, I just don't understand why the Cubs were the one to give it.

Generally with contracts like these, you're going to see the best performance from the player in the first 45-60% of the contract's term and have to eat the remaining portion of the contract while the player declines. The Cubs were a 61 win team last year, I don't really think they're in position to surpass the Reds and Cardinals anytime soon (or even the Pirates).

Damn... looks like Halos will really need to make a trade now with Sanchez off the market

Not a bad deal, when healthy he's pretty solid 2 pitcher in the rotation.
