when you are soriano's age lets say hey you have a contract for 200 million and you have played 2 years and have already collected 100 million of that. Do you think you would see Sori out there playing everyday on bad knees or would he be protecting his body for his next contract. Soriano may be a bad example because of the kind of guy he is but Athletes milk it and they also have perfomance clauses that might not mean **** when you already have collected the bulk of your cash.

I think like you have pointed out here the cause of a player playing out his contract in full effort would be more indicative of the character of a player rather than how his contract is structured.

Yea I just saw the report of the numbers. All of the sudden I forgot about Sanchez fiasco. I really can't express how I feel through writing but Jesus my thoughts are with those kids and the parents of those kids, such a tragedy.

Well yeah, of course the players want their contracts front loaded, but that's terrible for the teams. Front loading a 5/75 contract can make it's real value over those 5 years more like 80.

I'm not sure I agree. I mean, yes, the money is fundamentally worth more now, but when dealing with MLB payrolls it could easily be worth that trade-off to ensure maximum flexibility down the road. Particularly for an organization in the Cubs position, with tons of current payroll space and a team that isn't likely to be competitive in the immediate future.

True, I would prefer our organization not to be signing those cases but in a perfect world one could wish for many things.
