Pay who? Sanchez? Hamilton? Try for context.

"We" have money? Well if they spend idiotically it'll run out real fast. How do you not get that? There isn't a player in ML baseball worth $40M a year BTW.

In a long line of distressingly lame posts, this is "top shelf".

6/27/09: “We expect [Rondo] to play by the rules and be a leader as a point guard. We need him to be more of a leader,” Ainge said. “There were just a couple situations where he was late this year, I don’t know if he was sitting in his car, but showed up late and the rest of the team was there. We have team rules and you have to be on time. He was fined for being late, he said he was stuck in traffic, and it’s just unacceptable.”

You sound so dumb right here. Who are we paying? WAR means nothing? It is actually very close to predicting/reflecting teams records every year, whether you like it or not. Traditional stats are fine, but that doesnt mean Hamilton is a good fit here. You're saying throw money at everyone because we can, yet thats what got us right here.

Hamilton? no i was speaking of Sanchez. Yes you overpay for good pitchers. That or start AAA pitchers. Hamilton? where the **** did you get that im perfectly fine with starting Gomes/Kalish- Ells - SV from LF to RF. Our lineup of

    Ells
    SV
    Pedy
    WMB
    Ortiz
    Nap
    Gomes
    Salty
    Drew

That lineup is more than fine. Our pitchers on the other hand

Lester-coming off the worst year of his career...by far
Dempster- A pitcher we know what were going to get. innings and a sub 4 era
    Lackey- coming off surgury
ClayB- someone whos goning to allow us to compete but innings is a ?
Felix Doubront- 2nd full year of pitching. Lefty. He's only going to get better but at the end of the day hes a 3-5 starter.

SOOOOOOO we NEED a top of the line starter. Sanchez instead of Lackey would of been such an improvement. Whatever ill just read your peoples posts about WAR and how we need postion players when at the end of the day our SP rotation is below avg

Sanchez isnt a top of the line guy though. Hed be no better than a 3 hee probably a good 4th. Spend money when its the right time to. Next year there are several good FA pitchers. Id rather have money to spend then then use it now.

But how can you seriously say you'd rather spend the new payroll flexibility on Shane Victorino than Anibal Sanchez?

Paplester is right man, we NEED pitching. Sanchez is better than anything we have now, except maybe Lester if he has a big bounce back year.

He got a SIX YEAR DEAL. In six years we will hopefully be competing for a WS, and by then Victorino's contract wont be on the books tying us down. Yes id rather have 3 years of 13M Victorino than 6 years of 15M Sanchez.

Rather have Greinke than either one but we know how that went.

    No. If we had:

Lester, Buchholz, Dempster, Sanchez, Lackey by the end of the year, it's possible any of them could finish up as the #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 in 2013. There is no clear ace.

Sanchez over the past 3 years was a good #2, and an average #3 twice. His history in the AL East says that he couldn't be expected to be a #1. That isn't worth his contract. We signed and extended Lackey who was seen as a 1B/2A type SP and Becket who was seen as a 1A/1B SP for the same sort of money - how did they pan out? After all both had more a more distinguished background then Sanchez prior to the the deals. There has been some inflation since those two earlier deals, but not enough to excuse this contract here in Boston for Sanchez. I'm glad we didn't sign the "2nd best SP" in a poor FA class for borderline ace money.

Sanchez is not an Ace. He belongs in Detroit behind J.V, a real ACE...

We need Hernandez from Seattle. BC should be throwing the farm at them if anyone.

    King Felix
    Lester
    Buccholz
    Doubront
    Dempster

I Like that. There are not a lot of ACE pitchers out there to be had. Tough to get one. In free agency you over pay tremendously or through trade you gut your system.

Of course Sanchez is not an "ace." But just like you're saying, the game only has 3 aces. The teams that have those aces will not be giving them up any time soon.

A 6-year deal for a guy who is 28... it's overpaying, but it's not a killer. Sanchez pitched well in the AL for the Tigers last year. He has had better numbers recently than any of our pitchers. That's an undeniable fact.

If we could have traded for Cliff Lee, that would have helped. But teams are not willing to just trade away their best pitchers, and you can't afford to give up your whole farm system every time you need one.

So to say that Sanchez is not an "ace" or that 6 years is overpaying is simply irrelevant. We have money to spend and our main need is pitching. Verlander and King Felix aren't going to walk in that door any time soon, so let's get what we can get. Why are we signing injured, declining position players? BC is too caught up in signing "clubhouse guys" and trying to improve the team's image when the only reason they've been bad over the past two years is that the PITCHING HAS SUCKED.

Am i the only one who thinks Sanchez wouldn't even be anything special here? I was thinking 3/36 for him going into the offseason. Hes a 4.00 ERA guy in this division.
