ANAHEIM -- The Angels will unveil their new prize -- free-agent outfielder Josh Hamilton -- at a Saturday news conference at 11:30 a.m. PT at the ESPN Zone in Downtown Disney -- where Joe Blanton, Tommy Hanson, Sean Burnett and Ryan Madson were introduced on Wednesday.
The event is not open to the public, but fans are encouraged by the Angels to gather outside the venue, where television monitors will air the news conference. It'll also be carried live on MLB.com, MLB Network and FOX Sports West.
The Angels agreed to terms Thursday on a five-year, $125 million contract with Hamilton, who was expected to undergo a physical examination in Southern California on Friday. Results of the physical won't be known until Saturday morning, which is why the team didn't mention Hamilton by name in the release, simply calling Saturday's event a "major announcement."
Once that final hurdle is cleared, Hamilton will join an Angels lineup that also features Albert Pujols and Mike Trout, putting the 2013 payroll at about $160 million in hopes of ending a drought of three straight playoff absences.
The Hamilton signing has oddsmakers pinning the Angels as favorites to win the World Series, with Bovada giving them 15-2 odds. The crosstown Dodgers, who recently signed Zack Greinke to a six-year, $147 million contract, have 8-1 odds.
