Jays in the lead for R.A. Dickey; Rangers Out

    Jayson Stark@jaysonst

Sources say #Mets have gotten "serious" about trading R.A. Dickey as soon as this week. #Rangers & #Royals seen as most logical fits.
According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Mets have "gotten serious" about trading starter R.A. Dickey.

It appears that negotiations toward a multi-year extension between the Mets and the 38-year-old knuckleballer have fallen apart. Stark calls the Rangers and Royals the "most logical fits," but other teams could join the fray at this week's Winter Meetings. Dickey won the National League Cy Young Award in 2012 after posting a 2.73 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 230/54 K/BB ratio in 233 2/3 innings. The Mets will want prospects in return.
Joe McDonald of ESPN Boston reports that the Red Sox met with the Mets to discuss a possible trade for R.A. Dickey.

McDonald hears that the Mets asked for prospects Xander Bogaerts and Jackie Bradley, Jr., so the conversation probably didn't last very long. The thought is that the Mets could wait to see how the market shakes out with Zack Greinke before deciding what to do with Dickey. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Monday that he wants to land a "difference maker" in a possible deal.

can't believe they wanted one of the best prospects in baseball + another very good one in exchange for their 38 year old pitcher.

Well if the mets were asking for Bogaerts and Bradley from the sox, what would they be asking for from the Rangers? I don't know their farm system but something like Andrus + Olt + maybe Perez?

not saying its reasonable (at all) but I wonder what they would want

I can believe that when the Red Sox asked how much we just named a ridiculously high price on the first day of winter meetings.

Well it's according to "source", there is no guarantee that report was entirely credble.

I am assuming the Mets would want Olt and Leonys Martin.

That's still a lot too but the Rangers have a plentiful system and they are certainly closer than the Royals to winning a WS so they might be more willing to make that move.

You see Bogaerts and Bradley as comparable to Andrus, Olt and Perez?

Bogaerts is a top 20 prospect, and Bradley is top 50, compared to a proven, young, team controlled All Star SS, a top 30 prospect and a top 50-75 one?

Not saying Dickey is worth Xander and Bradley but those are NOT comparable packages.

The Mets have Tejada, i think they be will looking to fill needs not acquire a player they already have a spot for.

    Unless it's someone like Bogaerts.

The OF seems to be their priority.

no i was curious, like I said, i don't know the texas farm system at all.

    but btw

minorleagueball has xander as the #4 batting prospect and bradley as #24

meanwhile olt is #13 and perez is the #33 pitching prospect

andrus is obviously worth a whole lot too though

it would likely be olt or perez i would guess (with andrus)
I would think the Mets are more interested in Leonys than they are Perez.

Apparently they are very under-welhmed by the offers they are getting for him.

There's reports teams are more interested in Niese than Dickey.

I can see that, Niese is under control for the next 6 years.
