Patrick Mooney:
Sources: #Cubs potential deal with Chang-Yong Lim would be 2-year minor-league contract without much guaranteed money: {Link}Chang-Yong Lim spoke with reporters on Thursday at Incheon International Airport outside Seoul, South Korea, indicating he had a deal that could be worth $5 million over two years.
The Cubs have not commented on the reports, though sources said the money has been overstated, cautioning that if they close the deal, it would be a two-year minor-league contract that contains only a small amount guaranteed. It would not come with a spot on the 40-man roster.
That's much better. Absolutely no downside.

He won't be ready to play until 2014, AND he will be 37 then. I'm just confused by this.

It's because you overvalue youth, which isn't your fault. You don't need to be young to be productive, crazy as that idea may be in America. The arm is a good looking one, which is the larger factor.
It's almost totally without risk.
