yep. I didn't the catcher was all that important until I've seen what they can do, or more importantly when Posey's back up is playing. The extra bases allowed, just little things that don't show up in a stat book.

Lincecum was the worst pitcher in the NL last year. He dominated in the playoffs, and coincidentally he was throwing mostly to Posey. (in the reg season he didn't). The two giants starters in 2013 have pitched 14 IP 0 ER... posey catching.

Comeback player of the year isn't really a point in someone's favor, and given that he was a rookie would be impossible for Trout to win anyway.

Trout missed the batting title by a few points, but who cares? OBP is more important anyway, even if there's no award for it.

I'm kind of mystified to see all the "leadership" comments here, too. As if Belt wanted to use the first base bag as a pillow and take a nap while he was in the field and Posey wouldn't let him or something. He pays an important defensive position, but he's still not pitching the ball or hitting in the other right spots in the order.
No you missed the point. It is not silly to make that list. Or you might have misread the title of this post. Comparing two players, and I just made a case for one. Using evidence.

Trout is 20 years old, and hasn't done as much as Posey has just yet. He hasn't won enough. In the end especially in most sports you are judged by how much you win. Michael Jordan isn't considered the greatest b/c he didn't win titles. Same for Joe Montana. Derek Jeter. Buster Posey has 2, and I know he's not done. I'll take Posey, even though Trout might be the better player. (he had just one good season)

He hasnt won enough in one season? Do you not see the massive problems with that statement?

    1) He only has one season
    2) He is only one player, and cant control what his team does. He was the best player in baseball last year, so Id say he did his job and some.

actually he doesn't get enough credit. He is a HUGE reason why the giants are winning championships. Offensively, defensively, and his leadership is tremendous. All the vets on the 2010 team said as much.

He handles the pitching staff, and throws down the right signals. In crucial games he makes big throws, and of course monumentous hits. Buster didn't hit well in the playoffs last year, he had two HR's that I know of. One was in the decisive game 5 on the road against the giants nemesis Latos (grand slam) and the other was in the world series clinching game 4 when his team was down 2 runs. He comes up BIG in BIG games and he's only played 2 seasons. He's that important. These are intangibles that you can't measure, but it shows up big in the overall results.
This entire post is a giant contradiction. How do you know how much his leadership affects the game? Do you? Dont you? At first you say it does, then you say it cant be measured, but it shows up in the results? Thats 3 contradictions right there.

You cant measure his leadership, so it is all what we perceive. IMO, biased opinions that cant be measured are not a good way to compare players.

Also, to the bolded: Why does he get credit for not doing well except for two instances that he had no control over? If he had those two home runs in the 2nd inning or something when it didnt matter, does he not get as much credit? Why? He did his job, he doesnt control who is on base when he hits.

I seriously don't understand why people use championships in baseball to determine who the better player is

It shouldn't even be a criteria for determination.

Hank Aaron only won 1 World Series, should that be held against him? I mean is he all of a sudden less of an all time great because he only won 1 title?

    Same with Willie Mays...

A little player named Barry Bonds never won a WS either.
