I'd like us to sign Sanchez and see if he can find the plate. He has great stuff but can't locate, if not a starter put him in the pen and let him fire away as a spot left hander and my guess is his numbers would be okay.

Also like us to pick up Kelly Johnson, I think Dozier will be pretty good at 2nd but did not hit RH well and Johnson would be fine for a plattoon there. Gives us a Vet on the bench otherwise. Maybe he can catch the majic he had a few years ago. Low risk/high reward.

Shaun marcum is now off the board signed with mets on a 1 year contract. i really thought we had a shot on getting him, Saunders is taking a while to sign how long do we have to wait to see him come to Minnesota!

I doubt Saunders signs here. I doubt the Twins give three years, and if the Twins stick to two years tops, I'm sure the Orioles will match it.

Not that he'd excite me in any way what so ever.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Orioles have signed Jair Jurrjens to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.
The total value could be pushed up to $4 million if Jurrjens reaches all of his incentives
May end the time for Saunders in Baltimore. Still we are not giving him 3 years. How about 2 and a mutual option for the 3rd year?

Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities, the Twins are waiting to hear back from free agent left-hander Joe Saunders.
The Twins would prefer to sign Saunders to a one-year deal, but they could be willing to go to two years. The Orioles and Mets have also been mentioned as possible landing spots, but since each club signed a starting pitcher this week, the Twins might be the last team standing. Then again, a Twins' source expressed skepticism to Wolfston about whether Saunders actually wants to pitch for Minnesota. The 31-year-old left-hander had a 4.07 ERA in 28 starts last season between the Orioles and Diamondbacks.
We shall see. C'mon Joe we could use you.

Steve: we seem to have a lot of similair ideas. I hope the Twins go for Kelly Johnson and hopefully Saunders signs here. I can't remember if you mentioned Jonathan Sanchez, but whoever did I also agreed with.

I wish the Twins would pursue players like Kelly Johnson (low risk high reward) on "prove it" type deals. Worst case scenario is that he provides good platoon play for our IF. Best case is he finds what he had in ATL and can hit between 260 and 290 with moderate power and good defense.

I think we've seen more reports this offseason on guys the twins decided not to pursue, it makes me wonder if TR likes anybody? Does he just want to see all the young guys play. He obviously is more in tuned with the young guys then I am, but I saw nothing from Dozier, Florimon, or Escobar that makes me think "everyday IF" on a winning team.

KJ is now off the market so looks like it is Dozier at 2nd. I do think that he will be much better at 2nd than at SS. I played both in College and Town ball and playing 2nd takes a lot of pressure off as you have time if you bobble a hair. He has a SS strong arm so if he can get the turn down he should be good defensively.

Offensively if he also should be better as he has now "been there and done that" and many times that should help him relax at the plate. Am looking for him to be solid. Hopefully is .275 and play good D.

Now we just need to sign a Cuban!

Diaz may not be as available as he was thought to be. He might not be 23. One of the few times that being younger than your stated age is not a good thing.
Signing him might be held against the international money pool.

Here is a potential trade candidate -- Reid Brignac. He could play either 2B or SS and do pretty well defensively. Maybe the Twins could send someone like Chris Colabello or Evan Bigley to the Rays for him? Niether would have to be on their 40-man roster and they are going to DFA him, I'm sure. He's out of options, though, so the Twins would have to make a roster move to get him.

I saw the same thing and agree he would be a nice adddition as plays good defense if anything.

How about Jason Giambi as another option for DH/1B? He could come in cheap and add a bit of pop to the Twins line up.

Twins have posted the list of non-roster invitees to spring training: http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/team/...i.jsp?c_id=min
Some familiar names, some not. Some are very interesting to me. I want to see what Mark Sobolewski brings to the field. Chris Colabello has been invited as well. He might just make the team. We'll get a chance to see what Meyer has, also.
It should be fun to watch these guys.

Brignac was DFA'd by the Rays. He could be available for a very reasonable price.

My immediate thought was to go get him. I wouldn't have any issue with signing him, but I was shocked by his recent numbers, I didn't realize he has been that terrible offensively lately. The guys was at one time a top 100 prospect 4 years running but last year, his minor league numbers were as terrible as Florimon's and it wasn't a one year anomoly. Still, he's probably a defensive upgrade, probably not as flashy but much more consistant.
